The garden of eden in old norse
The YGDRASIL garden concept
The Old Nordic tree in the middle of the magical natural garden - in the year 2021.
- an aesthetic fusion in Old Norse mythology and modern technology - a garden room staging / a garden room theater developed and designed by Niels Lützen and Niels Peter Flint
The YGDRASIL garden is an attempt to create a completely different experience for gardens, rooftops, courtyards etc. An attempt to engage users – whoever it might be – to experience nature and technology in coherent, modern yet very nature based and respecting ways.
YGDRASIL is a garden that sends one both back and forth in time. Nature meets technology in new and different ways - gardens where both plants can be grown and magical moods can be created with the BJART lanterns and the sound system that is thought to be integrated into the YGDRASIL garden.
The intention is to start the thoughts of the user of the garden around modern life - today most humans have very little contact with "real nature". Here in this artificially created environment, this fusion of nature, culture and new technology can be experienced.
The intention and vision is that the YGDRASIL gardens will hopefully be able to start the users sensing and thinking about nature in very concrete ways and VIKONGOBERTA (a robot), which will be described later, will be able to inform about environmental challenges and much more relating to nature. But VIKONGOBERTA will teach users of the gardens how they will be able to live a more sustainable life in general.
YGDRASIL can be implemented anywhere really – one focus area will be healing gardens - spaces that will be able to make the residents happy, safe and make them relax either by just being in the garden or by growing plants or creating other activity in the garden – relating to nature.
The YGDRASIL tree
In the gardens YGDRASIL “grows” - a kind of sculpture - a structure that can be used for living, relaxation, reading, making small parties, ceremonies / life rituls and the like.
- YGDRASIL The structure has "built-in water". As part of the experience the YGDRASIL tree "rains" (drip irrigation) - especially on hot days it will create coolness and create an almost magical experience in the courtyard - especially in YGDRASIL "shelter".
- the YGDRASIL's built-in shelter may contain benches and a small fire / grill space (possibly only with gas for safety reasons).
- YGDRASIL GARDEN in general is "born" to be energy self sufficient using solar cells, small windrotors etc. that can accumulate energy for the tree and the garden. Elegant transparent colored solar cells that create power for YGDRASILS lights, pumps etc. could be provided by https://www.onyxsolar.com/colored-transparent-photovoltaic-glass
Materials: - Iron, stone, glass, wood, aluminum and other recycled materials
YGDRASIL contains:
- Built-in water pump (rainwater is used)
- Solar cells that produce electricity for light and pump are thought to be integrated various ways.
- battery
VIKONGOBERTA
- one of the garden's residents will be VIKONGOBERTA - a robot that will be able to activate the garden's users, but also a guide and much more - not just a gimmick, but actually an honest attempt to create a relationship between nature, people and new technology - and very basic in this case ROBOT that can animate, inspire and entertain users of the YGDRASIL gardens - with obviously meaningful entertainment.
VIKONGOBERTA could be developed on the basis of this robot possibly - https://www.generationrobots.com/en/403347-poppy-humanoid-robot-raspberry-pi-version-with-3d-parts.html.
The intention is that all VIKONGOBERTA´s, that will be acting in the various YGDRASIL gardens round the world, are connected and will be able to share wisdom and knowledge developed in the various gardens.
The intention is also that VIKONGOBERTA will always be developed further by a local community so that VIKONGOBERTA is “local” – this could be done with students or companies who will take up the challenge with VIKONGOBERTA.
BJART lanterns
- BJART is a mixture of a lamp and a fountain - an interactive unit that garden users can influence in different ways
- BJART lanterns can make sounds and lights … quiet and in harmony with the surroundings - moods that can be changed - with a mobile phone
- BJART will possibly also be a charging station for VIKONGOBERTA.
Materials: - Iron, stone, glass, wood, aluminum and other recycled materials
BJART contains:
- Built-in water pump (rainwater is used)
- Solar cells that produce electricity for light and pump
- battery
YGDRASIL INDOOR….
- The YGDRASIL concept could very appropriately be carried out on indoors activities as well with green walls and in door gardens in general, where plants – eatable as well as flowers etc. can be grown for consumption.
