Composting toilet system workshop

This course is about doing a simple dry toilet with a composting facility – but its as much discussing how we can integrate this very ancient yet very important dimension into modern life.

Understanding what human waste – and anímal for that sake as well – is extremely needed since we are running out of ressources ALSO when it comes to topsoil and ressources related to this (phosphor etc). Topsoil erosion is maybe one of the biggest problems humanity is facing since some claim that by 2050 we will have a 3rd of the agricultural land of what we have today. We are not only destroying our topsoil – we are also not adding or creating new topsoil / hummus mostly since we are so scared or our own leftovers.

So using humanure (human feces turned into manure through a composting process) is a very much needed process – and then its also fun, useful, saves you lots of money etc.

At this course we will be designing a small very simple unit – the simplest possible toilet and composting solution you can imagine – and it works – not everywhere, but a lot of places – we will discuss this much more at course, where its relevant to use these systems in todays world – but we will also look into the future perspectives of how to use real composting toiletsystems for large scale projects – all over the world.

At the end it setting up compost toiletsystems depends on where its placed and not the least how its managed – the toilet as well as the composting system.

So the bigger vision with this project is that we need to have everyone who has a garden to start doing compost toilets – and this way create manure for ones own garden and at the same time save ressources such as water and electricity for the infrastructure and rinsing systems used in modern sewage systems – and thus at the end help nature and the planet – and humans – to get back on track.
